Co‐financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, with its Contracting Authority as the Ministry of Industry and Technology and its Beneficiary as Middle East Technical University, Technical Assistance for “ECITE: Emergence of Creative Industries and Transformation of Economy of Gaming, Wearables and New Generation Film Production” Project, held its Crea Talk event as part of its Sector Meetings on August 2, 2024, at the METU Design Factory, with the participation of numerous experts, academicians, and entrepreneurs from the New Generation Storytelling and Cinema sector.
The event within the ECITE Project was moderated by the Cinema Industry Expert of the ECITE project and Assistant Professor of the Cinema and Digital Media Department at İzmir University of Economics, Dr. Serkan ŞAVK. It also featured Andreas TRESKE, Head of the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University, editor, film producer, and media artist, along with Videographer and
METU GISAM Lecturer Süleyman DEMİREL, as speakers.
In the first part of the event, valuable insights were shared on the recent developments and current state of the new‐generation cinema industry in Turkey, European Union countries, and globally. The discussions also covered changes in new‐generation storytelling and cinema techniques due to the recent intense use of social media, key considerations for entering the global market, steps that entrepreneurs and companies in Turkey can take to participate in sectoral networks, and the support that METU Crea can provide on all these topics.
Immediately following the Crea Talks, participants enjoyed entertaining moments in the Pop Quiz, where they competed against each other in groups they had formed. In the “Open Microphone” segment, many participants shared their thoughts within 90 seconds on topics such as new‐generation storytelling, the film industry, evolving technology, and changing life conditions. The event also provided an opportunity for participants to meet with industry leaders, engage in networking, and discuss potential collaborations. The event concluded with the “Crea Cafe,” a signature feature of METU Crea.
